Where Have All the Paula Coles Gone?
Sara Bareilles has snuck her way onto my Slacker station lately. Whenever I think of good ol’ SB, I think of this MTV ad:

The fact that she can laugh at herself makes her pretty different from the Paula Coles, Sarah MacLachlans, and Melissa Etheridges of the Lillith Fair days, which is the last time I can remember female songwriters being so prominently part of pop culture. But even Bareilles’ sense of humor has nothing on the irreverence of Lilly Allen, Amy Winehouse, etc. I think their willingness to rightly recognize their music as only one aspect of themselves fits in with the mix-and-match ethos of today’s youth.
I also think this should be my last MTV-related post for awhile. But first: a shoutout to the season premiere of The Hills tonight. LC 4EVAR!
